REPARTO — NEW training team, Spring 2027 🇨🇺

What is reparto?

Reparto is the sound of Havana right now. It was born in the early 2010s in the repartos — the neighbourhoods on the edge of the city — and it is what young Cubans actually dance to tonight, on the Malecón, on street corners, at house parties and in the clubs. Rumba clave under a reggaeton beat, the kick drum from timba, Afro-Cuban rhythms underneath, Havana slang on top. Artists like Chocolate MC, El Taiger, Wampi and Harryson have taken it from the barrio to the whole island and beyond.

In Cuba, where casino and timba come from, reparto is now part of the same night out — and the same dancers who dance casino dance reparto. If you want to understand Cuban dance today, not only its history, this is the missing piece.

What you’ll learn

  • The basic reparto movement and the body isolation it’s built on — the same Afro-Cuban roots you already know from rumba and casino, in a new rhythm

  • El guachineo — the signature step, danced on the toes, and its variations

  • How to hear the rumba clave and the timba kick inside the reggaeton beat (your musicality from casino transfers directly)

  • Solo movement, group energy and how reparto and casino live together on the dance floor

Why join?

  • Dance what Cuba dances now. Casino, son and rumba are the roots; reparto is the present. Knowing both makes you a complete in Cuban styles as a dancer.

  • Your Afro-Cuban body movement gets a new job. Everything you’ve trained in rumba and bailes populares — isolations, grounding, the spine — is exactly what reparto needs.

  • It’s solo-friendly. No partner needed. Train it alone, dance it in a group, bring it into your casino when the DJ switches.

  • Learn it from the source. Taught by Jesús La Rosa Pérez, who grew up with this music.

  • It’s fun. Loud, playful, a little bit cheeky — the opposite of a serious technique class.

Who it’s for: Open level. Perfect for casino, rumba and salsa students who want the modern side of Cuban dance, and for anyone who has heard reparto at a party and wanted to know what to do with it.
